The best SEO MCP servers, compared on data, setup and price

An SEO MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any other assistant that speaks the Model Context Protocol read your SEO data in the middle of a conversation. Instead of exporting a report and pasting it in, you ask “which keywords dropped this week and who took them?” and the assistant calls the tool, gets the numbers and answers.

In a year almost every SEO platform has shipped one, and they differ more than the label suggests: some are hosted and sign in with OAuth, others run on your laptop; some only read, others can create projects; some are included in every plan, others bill each call against an API quota. This comparison covers the servers worth connecting, checked on each vendor’s own documentation and pricing page on 1 October 2026. We build one of them, Mencoro, and describe the others as fairly as we can.

What to look for in an SEO MCP server

  • The data behind it. An MCP server is only as useful as the dataset it exposes: rankings, keywords, backlinks, audits, your own Search Console or AI visibility.
  • Hosted or local. A hosted server works in Claude and ChatGPT on the web and on mobile; a local one only in desktop, IDE and command-line clients.
  • How it signs in. OAuth lets you approve access in the browser and revoke it later; an API key in a config file is simpler to script but easier to leak.
  • Read or write. Servers that can create projects or delete data should preview the change and ask before running it.
  • What a call costs. Check whether calls are included or spend the API units of your plan.

1. Mencoro

The Mencoro MCP server answers how AI engines present your brand, next to your Google rankings. It exposes 60 tools, 31 that read and 29 that change something, plus 20 ready-made prompts: share of voice, mention rate, sentiment, mention types, the sources each answer cites and per-engine results across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Google organic and Shopping. It can also set up a project, add competitors and prompts or regroup clusters, and anything that deletes data or spends checks is previewed and runs only after you confirm. It is hosted at https://api.mencoro.com/mcp, signs in with OAuth 2.1 or a personal token, and is open source (MIT) with an npm bridge for desktop clients. It comes with every plan, from €15 a month, and the same data is available over the rank tracker API. See the MCP server page for the full tool list and setup in ten clients.

2. Ahrefs

Ahrefs runs a hosted server with tool groups for Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, SERP overview, Rank Tracker, Site Audit, Brand Radar (its AI visibility product), Web Analytics and Search Console data. Connecting through OAuth creates a dedicated MCP key. It is available from the Lite plan at €119 a month, and calls spend API units exactly like the API, with a cap on rows per request that rises with the plan. It is the strongest option for backlink and competitor research inside a chat.

3. Semrush

Semrush’s hosted server exposes its SEO API and the Projects API in read-only mode, so the assistant can read your tracking but not change it, plus Trends data if you subscribe to it. It signs in with OAuth 2.1 or an API key and is listed from the Starter plan at €190 a month, which includes 50,000 API units; every call consumes them. It works in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Perplexity.

4. SE Ranking

SE Ranking ships one of the largest servers, with more than 160 tools for keywords, backlinks, competitors, site audits, AI search visibility and project management, and it can write: create projects, add keywords and manage audits. MCP access is included in every subscription, from Core at €109 a month with 25,000 API credits, and calls run on those credits. It also publishes open-source SEO skills to pair with it.

5. DataForSEO

DataForSEO’s server is free and open source, and runs hosted or locally with npx or Docker. Its current version exposes four generic tools that search the documentation and call any endpoint: SERP, keyword data, Labs, backlinks, on-page and business data. You pay only for the API calls, with a $50 minimum top-up and credits that do not expire; a live SERP starts at $0.002. It suits developers who want raw data at scale rather than a finished report.

6. Google Search Console (mcp-gsc)

Google has no official Search Console server. The most used community one, mcp-gsc (MIT, about 1,800 GitHub stars), runs locally with your own Google OAuth client or a service account and offers 20 tools for search analytics, URL inspection, sitemaps and properties. It is free, and destructive actions such as removing a site stay disabled unless you turn them on. It is the best source for your real clicks and impressions, and pairs well with an AI visibility server to find topics where you rank but are not cited.

7. Screaming Frog

Since version 24 the SEO Spider has a built-in MCP server that runs on your machine, either through a Claude Desktop extension or as a local HTTP server started from the app. The assistant can start crawls, read reports and run bulk exports, and optionally run scripts and write files. It needs a paid licence, $279 a year, and database storage mode.

8. Keyword.com

Keyword.com’s hosted server covers rank tracking, share of voice, anomalies, AI visibility, keyword research and alerts, and can write, with an approval step before each change. It signs in with OAuth and is included in every plan, even during the 14-day trial, which makes it the cheapest way to try a rank tracker over MCP.

9. Nightwatch

Nightwatch exposes rankings for Google, Bing and YouTube, AI visibility, keyword research, audits and reports through a hosted endpoint and a scoped API key, read-only by default. Its own pages disagree on the plan: the pricing page lists the MCP server on every plan from Starter at €79 a month, while the MCP page says it starts on Professional at €159. Ask before you buy.

10. Peec AI

Peec AI’s server gives the assistant its visibility, sentiment, share of voice and source data, and can write when the user is an organization owner. Its pricing table ticks MCP from Starter at €85 a month, while the REST API starts on Pro. It signs in with OAuth or a personal access token.

11. Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI exposes brand reports, prompts, citations, GEO audits and recommendations, and can create or delete prompts and trigger audits. MCP starts on Standard at $189 a month with 2,000 MCP requests; the $29 Lite plan does not include it.

12. Moz

Moz has two hosted servers in beta, one for Moz API data such as links and domain metrics and one for Moz Local, limited to account owners. Every paid API tier lists MCP access, from API Starter at $20 a month.

13. Answer Socrates

Answer Socrates is a small, focused server: six tools that pull rising topics, trends, keyword ideas from Google Suggest and keyword clusters into the chat. It is included from the Seneca plan at $39 a month, with 500 requests.

14. Similarweb

Similarweb’s hosted server brings traffic, engagement, traffic sources, referrals, audience and keyword data into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. It needs an API, Business or Enterprise plan, priced on request, and calls spend data credits like the API.

15. Profound

Profound’s hosted server offers read-only report tools for AI visibility, shopping and AI traffic, and signs in with OAuth. Its pricing page lists only a trial and Enterprise, and API-key access needs Enterprise.

How to choose an SEO MCP server

  1. Start from the question you ask most. AI visibility, backlinks, keyword demand, your own clicks and crawl data live in different servers.
  2. Check your client. If you work in Claude or ChatGPT on the web, pick hosted servers with OAuth; local ones need a desktop, IDE or command-line client.
  3. Price the calls, not the plan. A server that spends API units can cost more than its plan suggests once an assistant starts pulling hundreds of rows per answer.
  4. Combine them. The assistant does the joining: Search Console for clicks, Ahrefs or Semrush for links and demand, Mencoro for whether AI answers name you.

For trackers compared on method and price rather than MCP, see the best LLM rank trackers. To try Mencoro’s server, connect it in your client, from €15 a month.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

An SEO MCP server connects an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to an SEO data source through the Model Context Protocol. Once connected, the assistant can pull rankings, keywords, backlinks, audits or AI visibility data during the conversation and reason over it, instead of you exporting files and pasting them in.
It depends on the data you need. For AI visibility and Google rankings in one place, Mencoro. For backlinks and keyword databases, Ahrefs, Semrush or SE Ranking. For pay-as-you-go raw data, DataForSEO. For your own clicks and impressions, a Google Search Console server. Most teams connect two or three and let the assistant combine them.
Yes. The community Google Search Console server and the DataForSEO server are free and open source, though DataForSEO charges for the API calls behind it. Most commercial servers are included in a paid plan rather than sold separately.
Usually not as a separate product, but many draw on the same API units or credits as the vendor's API, so heavy use in a chat can consume your quota. Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking, DataForSEO, Similarweb and Moz meter MCP calls that way.
A hosted server is a URL you add to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and sign in to with OAuth, so it works in web and mobile clients with no setup. A local server runs on your machine, usually with your own credentials, which suits sensitive data or desktop tools such as Screaming Frog, but only works in desktop, IDE and command-line clients.
