The best generative engine optimization (GEO) tools, by job

Generative engine optimization tools do one of four jobs: they measure how AI engines present your brand, they explain which sources drive those answers, they help you produce content that engines cite, or they bolt some of that onto an SEO suite you already pay for. Very few tools do all four well, and the right stack depends on which job you are short of.

So instead of one long ranking, this guide groups the GEO tools worth knowing by the job they do best, with the public list prices on each vendor’s site on 29 September 2026. We make one of them, Mencoro, and we have tried to be as fair about the rest as we would want others to be about us. If you are new to the discipline, start with GEO vs SEO .

Tools to measure AI visibility

Measurement comes first, because every other GEO decision depends on knowing where you stand. These tools run your prompts on a schedule and turn the answers into mention rate, share of voice, sentiment and citations.

Mencoro

Mencoro tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overview and Google AI Mode, and the classic Google SERP and Shopping results, in one project. Its focus is mention quality: each mention gets one of five types and a sentiment score, and share of voice is weighted by both, so a passing reference does not count like a recommendation. You pay per check from €15 a month, with unlimited projects, competitors and users, a REST API and an MCP server . It does not cover Gemini, Claude or Copilot. The GEO metrics guide explains what each number means.

Peec AI

Peec AI tracks prompts daily with strong source analytics: domain and URL citations, fan-out queries and gap analysis. Starter is €85 a month for 50 prompts with three models of your choice and unlimited users; extra models are add-ons, and the API is Enterprise only.

Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI starts at $29 a month for 15 prompts on ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot, and adds GEO audits of your URLs with weekly recommendations. AI Mode, Gemini and Claude cost extra, and the API and MCP server start on the $189 Standard plan.

Rankscale

Rankscale tracks more than 17 engines on every plan, but each engine burns a different number of credits per run. Pro costs $99 a month for 1,200 credits, roughly 4,800 answers on the cheaper engines, with page audits, an MCP server and shopping analysis; the REST API and white-label dashboards start on Growth at $385.

Enterprise GEO platforms

Enterprise platforms add scale, security reviews and services on top of measurement. They are sold through a demo, and the budget usually matches.

Profound

Profound combines answer tracking with prompt volume estimates, agent analytics from your CDN or logs, ChatGPT Shopping tracking and credit-based AI agents for content. After a free 7-day trial (50 prompts on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews), pricing is quoted by sales.

Evertune

Evertune’s angle is statistics: it runs each prompt up to 100 times per model and measures both the base models and the consumer apps, on 11 engines. Pro is listed at $800 a month for up to 100,000 prompts, but it is bought through a demo and there is no trial.

Brandlight

Brandlight sells only to large enterprises, with modules for visibility, technical health, content, partnerships, commerce and AI ads. There is no public pricing or trial, and its site does not list the engines it covers in text.

GEO content tools

These tools started from content and added AI visibility tracking. They make sense when producing and updating pages is your bottleneck, less so when you need deep measurement.

Writesonic

Writesonic pairs an article writer, site audits and an action center with AI tracking. Starter costs $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) for 50 prompts, but self-serve plans only track ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews; Perplexity, Claude, AI Mode and the rest need Enterprise.

Frase

Frase is a content operating system for search: research, writing, optimization, publishing and AI visibility monitoring. Starter is $49 a month ($39 billed yearly) for 50 prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI; Perplexity comes on Professional ($129) and Claude and Gemini on Scale ($299). It includes an MCP server and API on every plan.

AirOps

AirOps is a content production engine with agents, brand kits and knowledge bases, plus AI search insights on up to six engines. It does not publish prices on its site; plans are priced by task volume, with a 14-day trial.

Tools to earn citations

AI answers lean heavily on third-party sources: news sites, industry media and reviews. When the citations for your prompts point to outlets where you do not appear, the fix is off-site, and that is a different kind of tool.

Growwer

Growwer, our sister company, is a marketplace to publish sponsored articles and brand mentions in 39,881 media outlets across 145 countries. Its AI visibility filter recommends the outlets that AI models use as references, and it has a free AI visibility checker for ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. You pay only for each published post, with no subscription: across its 90 best-selling outlets the typical price runs from €26 to €223, with a median of €57. A managed service starts at €500 a month invested in placements. It does not track AI answers itself, so pair it with a tracker to see which outlets move your share of voice.

GEO inside SEO suites

If your team already lives in an SEO suite, its AI module is the easiest place to start. The trade-off is usually a small prompt allowance for the price.

  • Semrush sells an AI Visibility Toolkit at $99 a month per domain with 25 prompts, or includes 50 prompts in Semrush One from $199, on ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity.
  • Ahrefs Brand Radar includes 5 to 20 custom prompts in Ahrefs plans from $129 and sells its market-wide AI Visibility Index at $199 per platform or $699 for all, on six engines.
  • SE Visible, from SE Ranking, is a standalone tool at $99 a month for 200 prompts on five engines, one of the most generous allowances at that price.

How to build your GEO stack

  1. Pick one measurement tool that covers the engines your buyers use and tracks your competitors on the same prompts. Everything else depends on this baseline.
  2. Read the citations before creating anything. The pages that engines cite for your prompts tell you whether the gap is your own content, third-party reviews or media coverage. For media coverage, a publishing marketplace such as Growwer closes the gap.
  3. Add a content tool only if production is the bottleneck. Many teams get further by updating the pages that already rank than by generating new ones.
  4. Check the technical basics for free: that AI crawlers can reach your site and that your key pages are readable without JavaScript. Our note on llms.txt covers one of the optional pieces.

For a head-to-head on tracking only, see our comparisons of AEO tools and LLM rank trackers. If measurement is the job you need done first, Mencoro tracks your prompts across the main AI engines and Google in one project, from €15 a month.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

GEO tools help a brand appear in the answers of generative engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode. Some measure how often and how favorably you are mentioned, some analyze the sources those answers cite, and some produce or fix the content that engines read.
If you only want a first look, the AI modules in Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking are enough and keep everything in one place. If AI answers are becoming a real acquisition channel, a dedicated tool usually gives more prompts per dollar, more engines and deeper mention analysis.
Share of voice against the competitors that appear next to you, weighted by how you are mentioned. A mention rate tells you whether you appear; share of voice tells you whether you are winning the answer, and citations tell you which pages to work on.
Several can. Writesonic, AirOps, Frase and Goodie generate or optimize articles, and AthenaHQ and Profound add content agents to their trackers. Generated content still needs an editor: engines cite pages that are specific, sourced and up to date, not pages that merely mention the right keywords.
